Dr. Brown is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics and Chief, Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is the Medical Director for the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Brown received his bachelor's degree from Harvard College and his medical degree in 1989 from New York University. He completed his internship and residency at Harvard's Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and went on to receive his master's degree in Public Health from the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley. He has previously held academic appointments at the University of California, San Francisco and at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Brown's clinical research focuses on viral hepatitis and liver transplantation, including living donor liver transplantation; he has received research support and published extensively in these areas. Dr. Brown serves as chair of a national committee developing guidelines for Living Donor Liver Transplantation for the United Network for Organ Sharing. He is a member of the Medical Board of the American Liver Foundation and is an active member of the American Society of Transplantation and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
